Requirements for manuscripts submitted to Journal

“Clinical and Experimental Morphology”

compiled taking into account the Requirements of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Russian Federation and International Committee of Medical Journal Editor ICMJE Recommendations ("The Uniform Requirements") for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals

 

General instructions

The text should be typewritten and 1.5-spaced, with margins of 2.5 cm on each side. Use Times New Roman font with a font size of 14 pts. Alignment without widths; paragraph indent - 1.25 cm.

The manuscript should be accompanied by scanned copies of the application (signed by the scientific supervisor and certified by the seal of the institution) and a control sheet (the forms are presented at the website cem-journal.ru). Manuscripts, as well as accompanying documents, should be submitted to the editor by e-mail at cem.journal@mail.ru or via the site cem-journal.ru (the text must be provided in Microsoft Word, supporting documents with original signatures are attached to the letter in pdf format).

The article will be registered in the editorial office only if the complete set of documents is available.

Manuscript Structure

The title page should contain the following elements: Universal Decimal Classification (UDC) code, the article title, authors’ names and initials, full name of the institution(s) with departmental affiliation, city, country.

Format of the title: Type title in capital, then lowercase letters; authors’ names and initials in italics, the institution(s) with departmental affiliation, city, country type, using Times New Roman 14 font, 1.5 line spacing, low case letters.

If an author has multiple affiliations, different institutions are marked with numbers as indicated in the sample, that is, after the names of authors. It is necessary to specify the number in superscript, the corresponding number is placed in superscript before the name of the organization.

Abstract (summary)

The abstract with a length of 200 to 250 words that describe the main content of the paper and keywords (from three to seven) is placed before the text. The abstract includes the major aspects and essential facts of the entire paper. For original research, an abstract structure should reflect the structure of the article and include the sections as follows: Introduction, Goals and objectives, Materials and methods, Results, and Conclusions. Abbreviations and notations, except for common ones, are used in exceptional cases; they should be interpreted and defined at the first mention in the summary. Keywords should be as specific as possible and should indicate the general subject matter.

Sections following keywords:

Сorresponding author. The full name and email address of the corresponding author should be supplied.

For citation. Initials and names of authors. Article title. Clin. Exp. Morphology.

Funding. Options:

  • The work (the research) was performed within the framework of the state assignment of … (Institution) (No. … ).

  • This work was supported by the (Institution: e.g. Russian Science Foundation (RSF) / Russian Basic Research Foundation (RFBR)) grant (No. … ).

  •  

Title page. The title page should be presented in Russian and English.

Text. Full-length original papers should not exceed 12 pages (including figures, tables and references); short communications and case reports, 3-4 pages; reviews and discussions, 12-18 pages. A larger volume of original research articles is allowed on an individual basis as decided by the editorial board. The number of figures and tables should correspond to the amount of information presented. The data presented in the tables should not duplicate the figures.

 

In original research article the following headings must be used: Introduction; Goals and objectives; Materials and methods; Results; Discussion (it is possible to merge Results and Discussion); Conclusions; Author contributions; References; Author information.

 

In Author contributions at the end of the text, only the initials and the first letter of the last name should be indicated.

In Author information, which should be placed after References and presented in Russian and English, the list of full names of all authors, their academic degrees, academic titles, positions and affiliations (structural unit, institution - abbreviated name from the official website), ORCID should be fully specified.

When reporting experiments on animals, authors should indicate whether the procedures followed were in accordance with the European Convention for the Protection of Vertebrate Animals and the Rules for conducting work using experimental animals. In the Materials and Methods section, in addition to species, gender and number of animals used, paper should contain analgesic techniques in painful procedures and methods of killing animals. Papers disregarding the welfare of experimental animals will be rejected.

 

In the Materials and Methods section, the methods of statistical processing of experimental and clinical data should be specified. In the text of the article and in the tables, when indicating significance, it is desirable to give the exact value of p (р=..., not р<...). Correlation coefficients should be reported only with indication of their statistical significance, that is, with a value of p, for example r=0,435; р=0,006.

 

Along with general biological, physical, chemical and mathematical abbreviations quantities (e.g. DNA), no more than 4-5 nonstandard abbreviations are allowed in the text. Abbreviations should be defined at first mention in the text (not in the summary). Abbreviations of simple words, even though they are often repeated, are not allowed. Use SI units of measurement. Italics indicate the names of microorganisms, genotypes and alleles of genes.

 

The use of abbreviations in the conclusions is not permitted.

 

Figures. Drawings must be clear, photos should have contrast. All the figures must be mentioned in the text. Figure captures should be supplied on a separate sheet including the figure label with Arabic numerals and the legend. Magnification (X) or the size of the scale bar and staining (or visualization) method must be specified in the microphoto legend.

Please provide the tables and figures in separate files in TIFF (.tif) or JPEG (jpg) format (Word format is allowed). The resolution of the figures should be at least 300 dpi. Diagrams should be submitted in Excel or Word format with the data.

Tables. Tables should be clear, titled and numbered. Column headings should be consistent with the content the tables and should be mentioned in the text. Explanatory texts as well as the meaning of abbreviations should be included in table footnotes. Statistical tests used to describe the variability of the data set and report the significance of the differences should be specified.

Authors are strongly advised to have their manuscripts checked carefully for spelling, grammar and usage before submission. Manuscripts containing a lot of stylistic errors and typos will be returned to authors.

 

Bibliography and reference example

 

Reference list: in addition to the essential works, reference list should contain publications of the last 5 years. Dissertational works and author's abstracts, references to Russian-language abstracts and articles from collections of proceedings and conference materials are not recommended to include in the list.

 

No more than 15 to 20 sources should be cited in full-length papers; no more than 50, in reviews. References to publications of the authors of the article (self-citation) should not exceed 15 percent of the total list. The author is responsible for the accuracy of bibliographic data.

Bibliographical sources should be arranged in citation order in the text and numbered. The references within the text are each numbered within square brackets according the reference list. References should be entitled References, typed with 1.5-line spacing on a separate sheet, each reference on a new line under the sequence number; DOI must be reported. The names of foreign authors are given in the original transcription.

 

  1. In reference of domestic and foreign publications, for not more than six authors of books or papers, list all the authors; for more authors, list six first authors and «et al».

Subject to the requirements of international citation systems, each Russian-language source is followed by its bibliographic in square brackets, which has the following structure: authors and title of a book or article (English / transliteration), source (official English or transliteration proposed in the BSI standard), output data in digital format, DOI (if available). At the end of the English part of the bibliographic description, the language of publication is indicated in parentheses (In Russ.).

 

Subject to the requirements of international citation systems, after each Russian-language source, its bibliographic reference is placed in square brackets, which has the following structure: authors and title of a book or article (English / transliteration), source name (official English or transliteration in the BSI standard), output data in digital format, indicating DOI (if available). At the end of the English part of the bibliographic description, the language of publication is indicated in parentheses (In Russ.).
